Healing is hard, it’s both mental and physical effort, and there’s no right way or time to do it. It starts by pushing yourself to get out of bed in the mornings even if you don’t have to be anywhere until the afternoon. You keep doing that until you reach a point where getting out of bed isn’t a battle and you find yourself ready to actively participate in your life. That raw aching pain in your chest that used to limit you doesn’t phase you as much now and you know how to manage the heavyweights in your stomach and the ever running thoughts through your mind. You show up to work, or school, or social activities, and you stay present in the moment when before, you were passively coasting by day to day waiting for something to change. Now you are that change. You’re in charge of how you feel now and you make sure you stay in charge.
Those vices you’ve been using to mask the pain aren’t as effective anymore. You’re starting to acknowledge the pain you used to feel because now you can do that without it stopping you from going about your day. Those old thoughts you had suppressed rise again but this time, you know how to respond to them. Since you began filling your head with clouds to mask the emotions you haven’t been thinking properly, but now, as the clouds dissipate, clarity returns.
With this new clarity, you can see perspectives of your story you hadn’t noticed before and you can gain a new understanding of your environment. Your life is different now and it’s only going to keep changing, but you’re ok with that. You’re prepared for whatever life throws at you because you’re a stronger person now and you know how to look after your mind and body. Healing is part of your evolution and you’re doing so well.
